What is fresh herb juice?

Fresh juices are full of nature’s zesty vitality. Just as we drink carrot, celery, apple juice so we can extract the juicy and aromatic essence of herbs such as tulsi, nettle, aloe vera, cleavers, dandelion leaf, ginger. Flavouring with fresh fennel and mint can work well too. You can also rehydrate dried herbs by soaking them in 2 parts of water for 12 hours before expressing.

When is fresh herb juice used?

The freshly-expressed liquid juice of herbs is cooling, soothing, cleansing, and nourishing. They are often used in small amounts of 10-30ml where there may be irritation, redness, heat and a need for extra nourishment.

How can I make fresh herb juice?

This is best done with a cold-pressing juicer. Or there is the good old ‘squeezy-cloth’ method; After cleaning and washing the herbs, chop, grate or finely mince them, add to a muslin cloth and squeeze the juice out by twisting and pressing. An even easier method is to just blend the fresh herbs with a little water and take them as a fresh-herb smoothie.

What herbs can I use to make fresh herb juice?

Other herbs you could use include:

Ingredients

  • 40g spinach (or any greens)
  • 40g cucumber
  • 20g celery
  • 10g herbs e.g. dandelion leaves, cleavers, mint
  • A couple of slices of fresh ginger
  • A herb tea- e.g fennel or peppermint or nettle leaf

Method

  • Put the tea in the blender first and then add the other ingredients.
  • Blend until the mix is smooth.
